Komputer itu. “Kecanggihan”nya adalah karena dan pada kesederhanaan-nya dalam berpikir.

Kalo komputer makin kompleks, makin punya input yg banyak (e.g. mata, telinga, dll), akan makin “tampak bodoh” lah dia. Persis seperti otak. Makin bisa kita menyederhanakan pikiran, maka makin jernih kita memproses persoalan (baca: more processing power). Berilah komputer paling canggih sepasang mata, telinga, hidung, mulut, dan alat peraba. Suprisingly, lo bakal menemukan komputer yg “gampang lupa”. Kebodohan/Lupa adalah suatu kecanggihan super. Baru cuma otak manusia yg “ngerti” logic binary yg ini.

Baik otak dan komputer, keduanya digunakan untuk memproses kalkulasi matematika, mengurus algoritma2 kompleks dan menyimpan informasi2 penting. Cuma aja, komputer masih sangat amat primitif kalo dibandingin sama cara kerja otak, karena tantangan-nya juga jutaan (kalo bukan milyaran) kali lebih banyak dari processor komputer. Tapi balik lagi, justru karena ke-primitif-an nya itulah komputer bisa tampak lebih canggih dari otak, dia bisa mengkalkulasi lebih tepat persoalan matematika “sederhana” yang sudah lama dilupakan oleh otak manusia.

Jangan salah tapi, otak juga kan masih ada stock ke”primitif”an nya itu. Orang2 jenius, prodigy2 ternama, mereka memiliki kemampuan untuk bolak-balik antara dua mode otak ini. Saat mereka di state otak primitif mereka, mereka bisa “melihat” persoalan lebih jernih. Begitu balik ke depan, tinggal keluar kesimpulan. Ini makanya orang bilang kalo orang jenius itu suka melompat dari A ke D sementara orang2 lain masih berkutat di B atau C.

Sekarang kita beramai2 berusaha membuat robot/komputer yang semirip mungkin manusia (well, dari dulu siih). Pertanyaannya sekarang, gimana caranya kita membuat artificial intelligence yang bisa mencapai state “lupa”. Bukan cuma if/else ya (baca: pura2 lupa). Tapi robot yang bisa menciptakan “imajinasi” dan bisa “terhanyut” di dalamnya.

Imajinasi permukaan, atau imajinasi tanpa motivasi, dari matematika secara prinsip cukup simple (walaupun ya sangat amat rumit pada saat runtime implementasi-nya). Salah satu Model yg bisa dilakukan oleh logic programming sekarang adalah seperti ini: …Setengah mengacak kumpulan pixel yg di dapat dari vision’s input, dimana sebelumnya setiap pixel di perlakukan sebagai object (ini kalo ngomong dari term Object-Oriented Programming ya). Nah, jika pada tiap object tersebut sudah bisa ditempelkan “sifat”, tinggal dibuat hukum sebab-akibat dari sifat2 yg ada. Ini demi tercipta-nya imajinasi yang lebih “masuk akal” dan tidak terlalu abstrak. Sehingga dapat di “mengerti” oleh komputasi terbatas sekarang, untuk kemudian di beri layer2 kemungkinan terciptanya bentuk lain. Kelipatan 8-bit sudah cukup kompleks untuk menciptakan “bentuk baru”. Bila setiap satu bit diberi 8 kemungkinan. Berarti kalo dimatrix-kan akan terbentuk sebuah keputusan image/imaji yg berisi 16.777.216 pixel, ke 2 arah. Ok, sampe situ sih ok deh. Tapi tetap, tanpa ‘motivasi’ dasar dinamik, hasil imajinasi yg di dapat sangat sulit untuk terhubung langsung dengan knowledge yang sebelumnya ada.

Ini belum lagi ngomongin collective knowledge ya. Kalo udah di area itu, makin kecil lagi (kalo tidak boleh dibilang tidak ada) kemungkinan si imajinasi permukaan untuk mencerap dan memparsing diri-nya sendiri untuk dipetakan kedalamnya.

Last night I went cataloging my old harddisk, found this one.

I know it’s so last year, but oh my, I remember I was a really big fan of this video, and still am!. Ad launched by Discovery channel in promotion to their tagline (2008) . Contains clips of some of their best programs.

Although I think (maybe) the campaign was more targeted to a “wanna-be” genre (explorer-wanna-be, scientist-wanna-be, ‘something else’-wanna-be, etc.) who -naturally watch tv more than doing the thing, the potential for wider perception is so huge. I bet to most real explorers, scientists, travellers, seekers, or simply “fans of the whole world and all its sights and sounds”, this can be easily considered to be like, …the ultimate irresistible ad campaign . Which they can easily relate themselves to its content, or maybe felt being represented. Or deeper, being reminded about how they ‘really’ feel at first place by this short clip. The ‘love’. The ‘passion’.

For sure it is the ‘looove‘ which keep us going still at what we do, but sometimes, …the feeling is so innate that we just sometime easily forget it. It might feels like it doesn’t exist anymore, or even worse, never existed ha!. Now what the clip is trying to do, -in a fun and light manner-, is to go straight to our unconscious mind and tickle one our basic drive: Curiosity.

Humm, curiosity, emotion with unfixed action pattern, representing a drive to know new things, may as well most similar and/or connected to ‘love’.  The fuel of science and all other disciplines of human study. By tapping that ‘past experience’, we get re-united with this emotion. And by emotion, we then can feel quite close to the word ‘love’ use repeatedly by the song. If we’re lucky, we can even remember that it was the big-bang of love that starts our friend ‘curiosity’ found their way to live at the first place. (I’m not sure if I write that in right structure, but you know, sumthin like that..)

It is our love to know something new, something different or bigger than our current perception of self, something ‘outside’ ourselves. This ofcourse, -you might already know- will eventually lead to studying ourselves (inside). The reconstruction of perception. Inside-outside makes no difference. Because how could you know something is new if you don’t really know what new is. It is the process of attaining awareness or understanding.

aah.. humm.. where was I..

Oh.. ok. The use of unfamiliar word (to many) ‘Boom De Ah Dah’ (Boom-de-ya-da) really amplifies the curiosity to know the unknown while at the same time: celebrating it. Yeah you got the home run there.

The world is like one big, giant library for us to explore (and share of course).

A strange case.

Many, I think, looks like it finished… but it’s not. You don’t know specifically where it lacks yet, you just feel that it still disconnect with what you were trying to perceive. So you decided to give it sometime…

After a while, you get back on it and most often will be quite easily to see where it lacks, what to add or what to subtract. Then after a shortwhile it’s there, it looks like it finished. You seems happy.

But,… many times, it looks like it finished just because you already disconnected with the idea from the first place! get what I mean?

Maybe now it looks good because it represents another idea or another aspect(s) of the original idea. I’m not saying this is a bad thing. This is not an article to be debated. just a reminder for myself ^_^
